We are overjoyed to share an incredible milestone in the journey of Living Hope! After years of dreaming, planning, and refining our agricultural programming, we have officially launched a Farming Programme in the Eastern Cape—a region deeply significant to many of the people we serve.

When we first purchased land in the Eastern Cape, our vision was to someday replicate the work we began in the Western Cape. The goal was always long-term transformation: equipping individuals with sustainable skills and employment opportunities where they live. Many people from the Eastern Cape have moved to Cape Town in search of work, but their hearts remain in their ancestral home. This expansion of the LIving Hope Agricultural Programme is a direct response to the need for economic development in the communities we serve in the Eastern Cape.

On February 18, 2025, the first steps toward this vision became reality! We can’t express the joy and gratitude we feel seeing the work officially begin. Even more exciting is how this launch came about—it was driven by three remarkable graduates from our Living Hope Agricultural Training Programme.

Meet Mfundiso, Axolile and Lutho, affectionately know as “the 3 Ninjas.” These top-tier students stood out for their dedication, ingenuity, and leadership. At the end of January, they approached us with a business plan, market research, and a shared passion for bringing sustainable agriculture to the Eastern Cape. Their proposal? To turn fallow, unused land into a thriving farm that will not only provide food but also create economic opportunities.

This is no small task. Over the next 6–9 months, they will break ground, remove overgrowth, prepare the soil, install irrigation, and secure the area—all in preparation for their first planting season. Their vision includes:

  • Vegetable Farming: Cabbage, spinach, corn, and other essential produce.

  • Poultry Farming: Chickens for egg production, with manure composting to enrich the soil.

  • Sustainable Practices: Adapting and refining the methods they learned in the Western Cape to suit the local environment.

  • Community Impact: Supplying produce to local vendors and markets, ensuring both food security and economic sustainability.

From innovative potato farmers, to graduates, to farming entrepreneurs!

This moment marks a pivotal expansion for Living Hope—proof that our Western Cape programming has matured to the point where it can replicate and empower new communities. It is a testimony to God’s provision and perfect timing. What a joy to see “a new generation of expert farmers who can drive economic growth and improve food security, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of the communities they serve.”

We invite you to celebrate and pray with us as we embark on this next phase. Thank you for your ongoing support, which makes these life-changing initiatives possible. If you’d like to learn more or support the development of our Eastern Cape campus, we’d love to hear from you!

With gratitude and joy,

Victor Thomas
Executive Director

P.S. We remind you of your invitation to join us in the Eastern Cape for the opening celebration of our branch there! The opening of this farming programme at the same time as the commissioning is just icing on the cake. We would love to have you celebrate this incredible milestone with us!
